Delivery
Below is a summary of the functionality of student
delivery in Mneme.
List of Assessments
Mneme has a single list of all the assessments the learner needs to see.
See sample screen.

A few minutes later, the same list of assessments may look
like the following:

Description of the columns / data available to learners:
- Type -- assignment, test, survey
- Assessment title
- Status
- Ready to Take
- In Progress
- In Progress / Attention Required
- Attention Required / Now Overdue!
- Complete
- Complete / May Try Again
- Closed: Past Due
- Open/due date
- Time limit
- Column shows time, if timed
- Column shows a bar with remaining time if
assessment
has been started
- Tries
Column shows attempts allowed versus completed
- Finished column
Column shows finished date and time
- Grade
Column shows total points earned and (optionally) a link to Review of
results.
- If Review is set to 'immediate,' a link to
Review
is available upon completion.
- If Review is not available until a specific time,
the date of Review is listed.
- If no Review is available, no Review link will be
shown for learners.
Notes:
- If the assessment has been graded / released, the highest
score/review is shown in the Grade column. If the test is ungraded,
the Review page, if allowed, shows the latest try.
- If the test allows multiple tries, the highest
score is always used for grading.

Navigation
An action/navigation bar is included at top and bottom of all pages of an
assessment (flexible or strict order assessments). 'Finish' is included on every page, along
with next, previous and Table of Contents (TOC). If not used, buttons are
grayed out (as in linear order where there is no 'previous' and no TOC).

Reason for Answer
Reason for answer has its own icon in the legend of the table of contents. If
learners have left the "Reason" box empty in a question, this is highlighted in the TOC. They are reminded to complete it.

Finish Behavior
Learners can finish an assessment from anywhere, if they are done or partially
done.
There are two behaviors for Finish:
- Finish is available from any question and the
TOC. When there are no unanswered questions and no questions are marked
to
review prior to finishing the assessment, upon clicking on Finish,
Mneme submits the assessment / answers
after a single 'Finish' confirmation for the learner.

- The other Finish is when a learner has left questions unanswered.
Upon
clicking on 'Finish', Mneme takes learners to TOC, where they are alerted about
what's not completed. Learners can complete what's not answered, review
what's marked to review before finishing, and fill in incomplete reason
for answer. Learners
can click on Finish at any time to complete the assessment. Even if
questions are unanswered, upon clicking on Finish, after a single
confirm, they can finish an assessment.

Auto-Submitting Assessments with Hard Due Dates
Mneme treats assessments with hard due dates (i.e. no late submissions
allowed) as timed assessments. If learners take an assessment that has a hard due date, they will see a
"near due" timer. "Near due" is defined as within 2 hours of the due date,
for "no late expected" hard due date assessments.
Students see a timer in the enter screen and in all the
question views (question, remove upload, TOC, instructions). The timer is
also shown in the list view.

The timer sits in the "due" column in place of the
normal date display. It's displayed, running, when the assessment is within 2
hours of due. It only shows with the status is "ready," "in
progress", or if the assessment is near due; this means that the timer only
shows if the learner has not yet completed the assessment. If the
assessment has been
completed or if the assessment is actually past due, Mneme shows the
normal text display.
The 'near due' timer turns red when the due date
arrives.

When the
hard due date is reached, the assessment will be auto-completed, saving the
learner's answers.
If a learner is in the middle of an assessment with a hard due date, exits
to continue later, and returns to the assessment after
the due date has passed, she will find the assessment auto-completed (along with
the answers).
Whether learners are just sitting on the screen, staring at a question, at the
TOC, or exit to continue later, when the hard due date reaches, the
assessment
will be
auto-completed for the learners.
Strict Order Assessments
In Mneme, if an assessment is set to "strict order," it means that learners can answer a question only once. Students are given clear instructors as to
what to expect in strict order assessments.

In strict order assessments, learners can see a question, leave and
continue later, again, quite again, etc. Learners can move forward. They
cannot go to previous or the TOC. They can enter / exit as often as
they like till they say they are done. Once done, they cannot come
back to the question. If learners click on "Continue later" and return, they are
taken to the last unanswered
question.
If learners 'see' a question but don't answer it, Mneme alerts them to answer
it. But, the software doesn't keep them stuck. Learners can proceed to Next, after the
alert, leaving a question empty.

Special instructions are added at the beginning of
strict order assessments to alert learners that they can answer a question only once.
The instructions are included in a link at the action bar on every page.

Review Elements
- 'Answer Key' and 'Feedback' are highlighted in bold,
and are easily identifiable with icons.
- Grader comments in the student review scores page are
highlighted to stand out.
- A note icon is provided for additional emphasis by the
grader's comments.
- Model answer is highlighted for learners.
- The total grade and part scores are also flagged with
a 'grade' icon.

Enter Screens
Upon clicking on an assessment's title, learners are taken to a
"Ready to Begin?" page that includes assessment instructions (if
provided by the instructor) and system notices. Learners can begin or cancel.
System notices are included for flexible order, strict order, and timed
assessments, providing learners with clear information about the setup of the
assessment and the behavior that they should expect.

Instructions Link
Learners have access to all instructions
(instructor instructions, timed, flexible order, strict order, or part instructions) via a link at
the action bar of an assessment, accessible from every page or question.

The Instructions View allows learners to review
the instructor's and system notices (all provided in one page) at any
time, and continue from where they left off, as in the following example:

Review Options
Instructors may choose to show students feedback, answer keys and their
scores immediately upon submission, after they releasing grades, after a
specific date, or never.
Further, instructors can choose what to reveal to
students in review: a) Show student responses to questions, answer key and
item scores, b) show answer key and item scores only for correct answers,
or c) show no answer key and no item scores. Students see their responses
but not how they did.

Instructors can change the Review (or other) settings at
any time, even if a test has started and students are in the process of
taking it.

Grading
The following Grading Options control what
students see in Review and in the Gradebook:
- If set to "Automatic", students see their score in Review,
based on feedback settings.
- If set to "Manual," instructors
evaluate and release grades to students. Students don't see their
submission or scores until that's done (and if enabled, as per feedback
settings).
- If "Send to gradebook" is checked, students see their
score in the gradebook.

Final Confirmations
Upon
finishing an assessment, the learner is taken directly to
Review (if
settings are set to immediate) OR to the list of assessments (if set to
no review or show review at a specific date), where learners can see a time
stamp for their submission, their score (if graded), if they have more tries, status, etc.
No final confirmation page
is shown to learners if a final message is not included by the instructor.

Security
Mneme supports a secondary password for additional security when giving
high-stakes assessments. A secondary password may also be assigned for special
access to a test to one or more students.
- If a password has been assigned to an assessment or
to a group of students, upon clicking on "Begin," the learner is
prompted to enter the password prior to gaining access to the
assessment.
- Once the learner is in the assessment, he may re-enter it
as many times as he wishes within the open/due dates, including logging
out and returning, without having to re-enter the password.
