Mac Users - Faculty Authors!

Upgrading to Firefox 2.x and
removing old plugins from your system

ATTENTION: ALL Mac users are urged to upgrade to Firefox 2.x and clean old plugins from their systems.

If you used Firefox 1.0.6 or below, and downloaded the java plug-in at that time, follow these instructions for upgrading to Firefox 2.x. If your system never used versions of Firefox previous to 1.5, and you never installed the java plug-ins (or you don't even know what I'm talking about here), then you don't need to do anything and can ignore this page.

After you follow these steps, Firefox will load faster and will work properly with the Melete Lesson Builder.

Mac Users - Clearing your System and Upgrading to Firefox 2.x and above

Firefox 2.x does not need any plugin to run Java Applets, such as the Sferyx editor used in the Melete Lesson Builder. Users who had installed the required plugin for Firefox 1.0.6 MUST remove it or new versions of Firefox will not work properly (crashes, blank editor windows, etc.).

Before you upgrade to Firefox 2.x, follow the steps below to remove old plugins from your system:

  1. Go to "Hard Drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins" and remove the following
    files: JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle and MRJPlugin.plugin.
  2. At this point, using Firefox 2.x or greater will work smoothly.
  3. Download and install Firefox 2.x for Mac OSX.
  4. Verify that your cache setttings are configured properly!

CAMINO USERS: Camino is a Mozilla browser, and like Firefox 2.x and above, it comes with the java plugin which will conflict with the old plugin that you might have installed in your system.

Please follow the above steps to remove old plugins and avoid conflicts.
